Heald Green Housing
- 1968
- John Poulson
- Ings Road
Despite Poulson's disgraced demise, this group of houses tumbles elegantly down its valley in the small town of Liversedge, part of the West Yorkshire conurbation. The estate stands out from many. The butterfly roofs give an irregular rhythm to what is a repeat pattern, as each house steps down. The houses at the top are arranged around a green and parking is ample at the back. The plan for this group is overtly sociable. Front doors face each other across generously landscaped spaces with a carefully composed sequence of stairs between terraces. A cleverly composed cluster that benefits from accessibility figuring fleetingly in regulation or practice of the period.
