Allerton Branch Library

Ronald Bradbury was Liverpool City Architect from 1948, having held a similar position in Glasgow. He retired in 1970. This is one of a number of new branch libraries built by Liverpool Corporation in the 1960s. Described by Quentin Hughes as 'an elegant single-storey structure', the steel frame allowed for unobstructed internal space to originally house 22,000 books. The orthogonal building sits on a triangular site and the hard landscaping was also designed by the City Architect's Department.
